PEDIATRICS – $40,000
Thanks to a donation from La Fondation Ronald Denis, HMR’s Clinique Tremplin childhood obesity clinic, which provides specialized care and services to families of children and teens with obesity, will be able to create an outdoor fitness area. This Trekfit circuit will enable the clinic to increase its service offering by helping young people adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
NEPHROLOGY – $30,000
A generous donation from Paladin Labs Inc. made it possible for the nephrology department’s surgical teams to purchase a perfusion machine to facilitate the preparation of kidneys for transplantation.
ENT – $45,000
The ENT teams at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont now have access to a TruBlue Laser, which enables specialists to operate more quickly, while speeding patient recovery.
LEUKEMIA CELL BANK – $50,000
This sum, donated by the Vita Children’s Foundation, contributes to the Quebec Leukemia Cell Bank’s pediatric and young adult acute leukemia program. Led by Dr. Josée Hébert, the program aims to optimize research by making resources available to the scientific community.
OPHTHALMOLOGY – $132,000
Clinical researcher Dr. Cynthia Qian is leading work on Stickler syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes retinal detachment. Through this research, the ophthalmology team seeks to better understand the disease and its behaviour to slow down or even halt the onset of symptoms.
The ophthalmology department acquired a hyper-realistic EYESI simulator, which enables surgeons to master the delicate hand movements of cataract operations, well before touching patients’ eyes. The purchase was made possible by a donation from Joseph Cohen and Madeleine Persson.
IMMUNO-ONCOLOGY – $300,000
Two generous donations, from the Richard and Edith Strauss Foundation and the Cole Foundation, will help advance immuno-oncology research. These investments will fund a range of projects in fields such as hematology-oncology, stem cell therapy and CAR T-cell therapy.
RESPIRATORY THERAPY SCHOLARSHIPS – $100,000
The HMR Foundation awarded scholarships to a dozen young respiratory therapists who chose to start their career at HMR. This opportunity was created to encourage aspiring respiratory therapists, support HMR in its recruitment efforts and highlight the importance of respiratory therapy as a profession.
RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS – $20,000
Each year, the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Research Centre hosts interns from a range of scientific fields. In 2022, four students benefited from an internship grant offered by the HMR Foundation, giving them an opportunity to grow and collaborate with senior researchers.
